Below is a list of restaurants that have passed the test again and again in the areas of service, food quality, and atmosphere. I chose the following restaurants and based opinion not only on the great food that they serve, but also on the personal care and attention that is given by the owners:
NEAR THE PANTHEON
L’Angoletto Romano – Very inexpensive, casual, friendly service, and great food.
Via Monterone 14/15, tel: 06/68807444
NEAR PIAZZA NAVONA . . .
Serafini – Opens at noon and normally stays open. Very good food and service. Classy, but not overpriced. Romantic atmosphere and very nice outdoor seating area.
The neighborhood is one of the most historically Renaissance areas of Rome.
Via di Tor Millina 1, tel: 06/68809843
NEAR THE ROMAN FORUM & COLOSSEUM . . .
Massenzio – Restaurant with a beautiful outdoor eating area, located in a garden setting. Delicious, fresh fish and pizza cooked in a special wood oven on bricks.

Largo Corrado Ricci 2-4-5-6, tel: 06/6790706
NEAR TREVI FOUNTAIN . . .
Hostaria Trevi – One of the last true hostarias that exists in the downtown area of Rome. The owner Armando, and his son, Alfredo, personally make and serve traditional, old Roman dishes.

Taverna Varrone – One of the last rare, underground tavernas in Rome. Rustic atmosphere for fancy food. Do not miss the “mixed” appetizer buffet – especially the meatballs! Pasta, pizza, fish, and meat – all served fresh daily.
You will be enchanted by the very friendly touch of Aldo and Francesca.
Via Varrone 7/A, tel: 06/6892854
Zero Cafè – If you are tired of Italian food, or this is your first time visiting Italy, you might want to try to try this bar/restaurant. This place offers a little bit of everything: Steaks, pizza, American-style salads, and after-work cocktails – all in a very animated, young area next to St. Peter’s. Open until late.
Piazza Risorgimento 7, tel: 338/1160149
